Abstract:Objective: To assess the therapeutic effect and safety of modified Shashen Maidong decoction in the treatment of carcinoma. Method: Literatures regarding randomized clinical trials of modified Shashen Maidong decoction in treating cancerous fever were revewed. According to inclusion standard and the elimination standard,related literatures were selected and analysed according to different treatment strategies of trials.The methodological quality of the included trials was assessed and Meta-analysis was performed with Revman 5.0 software. Result: Fourteen randomized clinical trials (n=1 193) were identified the methodological quality only one ranked high. Meta-analysis indicated that modified Shashen Maidong decoction was more effective than western medicine [OR 2.01, 95%CI (1.39, 2.92)]in the treatment of carcinoma. Seven articles reported side effects and no serious adverse events were reported. Conclusion: modified Shashen Maidong decoction may be effective in the treatment of carcinoma, however, the evidence is not strong due to the variations of the herbs,more randomized clinical trials are required.
