    Abstract:

Objective: To determine the antioxidant activity of the total salvianolic acid from Salvia deserta Schang. Method: The extraction and purification of the salvianolic acid were prepared by using 40% ethanol extracted and macroporous adsorption resin purified respectively. The antioxidant activities of the extraction and purification of the total salvianolic acid were determined by·DPPH, ·OH, O2-· scavenging experiments and Fe3+ reduction capacity experiments in vitro. Results were compared with that of positive control vitamin C (VC). Result: The·DPPH scavenging assay of the extraction and purification of the total salvianolic acid (IC500.029, 0.039 g·L-1) were weaker than VC (IC50 0.018 g·L-1). The·OH scavenging assay (IC50 0.212, 0.165 g·L-1) were higer than VC (IC50 0.356 g·L-1).The O2-·scavenging assay (IC50 3.735, 1.913 g·L-1) were weaker than VC (IC50 0.390 g·L-1). The purificiation also has a certain reduction capacity. Conclusion: The total salvianolic acid from S. deserta possessed high antioxidant activity.
