Objective: To study the optimum methods of extracting and refining ginsenosides from red ginseng. Method: The ability of extracting and refining ginsenosides was compared in different types of macroporous resin and different technological conditions with total amount of ginsenosides as index. Result: The HPD-400 macroporous resin was best for separating and purifying total saponins in the following technological conditions: the sample concentration was 1.7 g ·L-1, pH 4.68, the flow rate was 7.5 BV ·h-1, the eluting reagent was 80% ethanol (4 times the volume of column) and eluting velocity was 7.5 BV ·h-1. Conclution : The technological condition will provide bases for the preparation technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine containing ginsenosides.
